A First Watch for Work: What to Buy Under $100
You have the shirt, the shoes and perhaps a new job. Now you want a watch that looks at home at work without using up the rest of your budget. It is easy to get distracted by extra subdials. Start with the less exciting details instead: whether it catches your cuff, how the strap adjusts and whether you want to reset it after a weekend off.
For a first work watch under $100, our default shortlist is the slim quartz OLEVS 9954, the more decorated steel-bracelet 5680, and the leather-strap automatic 6725. Each solves a different problem. These are catalog-based choices, not wear-test results or a ranking of every brand.
Selection note: These picks are from the OLEVS Watch Store catalog, compared using listed specifications rather than hands-on testing. Prices were checked on October 22, 2026, in USD; taxes are extra, and prices, availability and destination pricing can change.
Start with your actual working day
A watch for a desk job and a watch for a wet, physically demanding workplace are not the same purchase. The three picks here are dress and everyday styles. Their listed 30m water resistance does not make them swimming, shower or water-intensive-work watches. If your day involves frequent immersion, look for equipment explicitly suited to that use.
For office wear, put your hand on a desk and bend the wrist as you normally would. A thick watch under a fitted cuff may get annoying even if it looks terrific in a product shot. Then think about weight: some people enjoy a steel bracelet's heft; others keep taking it off to type.
If you want the least fuss: OLEVS 9954, $56.99

The 9954 quartz watch is listed at 41mm in diameter, 7.5mm thick and 59g. The thin profile is the reason it leads this particular shortlist. It is a sensible place to start if a watch has to share space with a shirt cuff rather than dominate it.
The woven mesh band uses an adjustable clasp rather than removable steel links. Check the instructions for that clasp and the usable fit range; a quoted strap length is not automatically the wrist circumference it will fit.
Choose it for: a relatively clean dial and lower-maintenance quartz ownership. Skip it if: you want a small-diameter case or the feel of a traditional link bracelet. Slim is not the same as compact.
If you prefer a traditional bracelet look: OLEVS 5680, $66.41
The 5680 quartz watch gives you a date display, fluted bezel and decorated dial in a listed 40mm case. It is a more expressive option for someone who already wears polished metal accessories.
Its 11.5mm thickness and 108g listed weight are the trade-off. It is smaller in diameter than the 9954 but heavier and thicker. That is a good example of why buying by diameter alone can mislead.
Before sizing the bracelet, check the return conditions. Alteration can affect eligibility. If you are unsure of the adjustment method, ask a qualified watch technician rather than pushing an unfamiliar pin.
If the mechanical aspect is part of the appeal: OLEVS 6725, $94.99

The 6725 automatic watch is listed at 41mm, 12mm thick and 60g. It has a cleaner dial than the skeleton alternatives in our catalog, and the leather strap changes the look without adding a heavy steel bracelet.
We would choose it because you want an automatic, not because office work requires one. Expect to follow the manual for winding and setting when needed. For occasional wear and a grab-and-go routine, quartz may be the easier decision.
A quick fit check before paying
- Measure a watch you already like, or try a paper outline at the listed diameter.
- Ask for lug-to-lug and usable strap-fit measurements if they are not listed.
- Compare thickness against your shirt cuff.
- Pick the color and strap variant deliberately; do not let the default photo decide.
For a useful explanation of why diameter is only part of fit, see Citizen's size and fit guide. Shape and thickness can change how similar-sized watches wear.
What would we leave out of the shopping list?
A complicated dial you cannot read at a glance, a watch chosen only for its discount percentage, and a premium box you do not need. Standard OLEVS packaging is already included with an individual watch. Spend the difference only if the upgrade matters to you.
Is one of these a “one watch for everything” choice?
Not literally. They can cover many everyday outfits, but water exposure, work hazards and personal fit still matter. Choose the watch for your real week, not an imaginary wardrobe in which every day requires a suit.
